DrainUpGrader

What is the DrainUpGrader?

The DrainUpGrader is an attachment for an excavator which is capable of digging 60 by 60 centimetre erosion resistant drains. The surrounding soil and walls are instantly compressed. By using local soil, this circular alternative is able to make drains 10 times cheaper and 20 times faster than concrete drains.

Why the DrainUpGrader?

The city of Accra experiences floods on a regular basis. The drainage channels are polluted with garbage and wastewater, causing the system to get clogged, resulting in unhealthy stagnant water. During periods of heavy rain, the drainage system is unable to discharge the vast amount of surface runoff due to blocked drains. Additionally, certain low level areas of the city have no areas at all.

The DrainUpGrader is capable of making erosion-resistant drains for a fraction of the cost of traditional drains. This will create a unified drainage system to help the city of Accra.
