Soil quality map Accra!

In order to determine whether or not the soil of Accra is suitable for use with the DrainUpGrader, an advanced analysis of the soil in the region was executed. Several parties, over the span of 5 years, have been taking soil samples in the region. The samples focussed not only on physical characterestics of the soil (sand, silt, clay and gravel content), but also the chemical quality. All of the soil samples, in combination with open source soil maps, were bundled to create one large overview of the different soil types in the Accra region!

On the map, the full region is divided into three areas. Area 1 consists of mainly sand, but contains significant fractions of silt and gravel. Area 2 is almost entirely sandy, and contains barely any other types of soil. Area 3, in constrast, is very rich in other materials, such as clay and silt, which is very different from the other areas. This map is a large step towards understanding the soil in the Accra region and deploying the DrainUpGrader!
